There’s something so special about a one-year milestone session. That first year of life is full of huge changes—first smiles, first steps, first words—and it all seems to fly by in the blink of an eye. That’s why I love capturing this moment for families: it’s a chance to freeze time and celebrate everything your little one has become.

For this one-year-old session, we started with cozy family portraits in the studio. These are always some of my favorites! I encourage parents and siblings to join in because your baby won’t remember this day—but they’ll always be able to look back and see the love that surrounded them. We kept it simple and natural, focusing on genuine connection, cuddles, and giggles. I have a selection of soft-toned backdrops and outfits from my client wardrobe to keep the look timeless and clean.

After family portraits, we moved on to some solo shots of the birthday baby. At one year old, personality really starts to shine, and I love giving little ones space to explore, clap, smile, and show off those new teeth or even those wobbly steps. Whether they’re serious or silly, every expression is worth remembering.

Then came the grand finale—flour play! Instead of a traditional cake smash, this family chose a unique and fun twist. We spread a layer of flour across a clean studio surface and let the birthday girl go wild. The results? Pure joy. Messy hands, cloudy flour puffs, and the kind of belly laughs you can practically hear through the images. It’s a creative, sensory-rich way to end a session—and it photographs beautifully in soft light.
