As a professional newborn photographer with 16 years of experience, the most important part of every session I conduct isn’t just the lighting, the lens, or the perfect wrap—it’s safety. When parents trust me with their precious newborn, I take that responsibility incredibly seriously. Posed newborn sessions in a studio setting can yield beautiful, timeless portraits, but only when every step is taken with your baby’s safety as the top priority.
Newborns are delicate in every sense—physically and emotionally. Their muscles are still developing, their immune systems are brand new, and they need to be handled with the utmost care. That’s why I’ve spent more than a decade refining techniques, studying newborn physiology, and staying current with safety best practices specific to newborn photography.
Here’s what I ensure in every session to protect your baby’s wellbeing:
Your baby is never left unattended or out of arm’s reach—ever. Even when I step back to capture the image, I am positioned close enough to reach your baby instantly if needed. Their safety is monitored constantly throughout the entire session.
Newborns are most comfortable in a warm environment. My studio is kept at a safe, cozy temperature so your baby stays relaxed, especially when undressed or in delicate wraps.
From blankets and props to hands and surfaces, everything your baby touches is sanitized before and after every session. I only use materials that are soft, hypoallergenic, and baby-safe.
Every pose is carefully chosen based on your baby’s flexibility, comfort, and developmental stage. Some of the more complex poses you see online are often created with composites (multiple images safely edited together). I never force a baby into a position they resist or that puts strain on their body.
The baby always comes first. If a pose isn’t working, we don’t do it. If baby needs a break to feed or be soothed, we pause. Your newborn’s comfort and cues guide the entire session.
With 16 years in this field, I’ve photographed hundreds of babies—and every single one has been treated with the same gentle, respectful approach. I continuously invest in education to stay updated on newborn safety protocols and posing techniques.
While I take care of everything in the studio, there are a few things you can do to help ensure a smooth and safe session:
Those dreamy, curled-up newborn portraits are only possible when safety is the foundation of every shot. As your photographer, my goal is not only to create beautiful memories but to give you peace of mind, knowing your baby is in skilled, gentle hands.
If you have any questions or concerns before your session, I welcome them—open communication is key to a safe and successful experience.
Because when it comes to your baby, nothing matters more than their safety—and their story deserves to be told with care.
If you’re expecting or recently welcomed your little one, now is the perfect time to reserve your spot. Newborn sessions are ideally scheduled within the first 14 days after birth to capture that sweet, sleepy stage. My calendar fills quickly, so I encourage you to reach out as early as possible.
