One of the questions I sometimes hear after a session is: “How did you get so many different photos if my baby was wrapped the whole time?”

The truth is—there are times during a newborn session when wrapping your baby is not just helpful, it’s essential. Maybe baby is overtired, sensitive to touch, or simply having a fussy day. In those cases, wrapping is my go-to solution to help baby feel calm, secure, and settled so we can continue the session smoothly.

Wrapped = Comfort + Flexibility

Keeping a newborn wrapped often helps us avoid tears, keep baby warm and cozy, and allow for easier transitions between setups. But just because baby stays wrapped doesn’t mean you’ll end up with a gallery of identical images.

Here’s how I still create plenty of variety while keeping your baby snuggly and content:

1. Multiple Wrap Styles

From a tight full wrap to a more relaxed tuck with hands or feet showing, I switch up the wrapping technique depending on the setup. This subtle change alone can transform the feel of each image.

2. Prop Swaps

Whether it’s a soft basket, a rustic bowl, or a minimalist bed setup—changing out props allows me to build a totally new scene without disturbing baby. Each setup is styled with complementary textures, wraps, and colors for a full gallery of distinct looks.

3. Different Angles & Crops

By adjusting my shooting angle—from overhead to side profiles to close-ups—I’m able to showcase everything from tiny lashes and button noses to curled-up toes (even when they’re peeking out of the wrap). This gives you a diverse, emotional collection of images.

4. Backdrop and Texture Changes

I layer and swap out blankets, furs, and fabrics with different tones and textures that elevate each image. These small changes make a big visual impact.

5. Wrapped Baby in Family Portraits

A wrapped baby is much easier to hold and position in photos with parents and siblings, creating relaxed, connected family portraits. It also helps everyone feel more at ease, knowing baby is secure.

When Wrapping Becomes the Best Option

While some babies are happy to be unwrapped and posed throughout the session, others need a bit more comfort—and that’s okay! If I notice your little one is happier and more content while wrapped, I’ll prioritize keeping them comfortable while still delivering a beautiful, well-rounded gallery.

The goal is always the same: a calm baby, a smooth session, and timeless images you’ll treasure forever.
